SEA builds DECKsim capability by adding ASIST

Cohort company SEA is enhancing its deck simulation technology used for training Flight Deck Officers by incorporating a virtual representation of the Curtiss Wright Aircraft Ship Integrated and Secure Traverse System (ASIST) into the DECKsim suite.

SEA’s Flight Deck Officer trainer is in use both in the UK and overseas. The latest enhancement will be available on new installations or can be retro-fitted to existing simulation software. Some 30 ASIST systems are currently installed or on order for five navies, on seven ship types, operating with five different helicopters worldwide.

The advanced handling technology helps helicopter pilots to make landings during a quiescent period in ship motion. For Flight Deck Officers, on deck manoeuvring is easily conducted with a single operator with no need to connect any ancillary equipment or guide cables to the helicopter.

The unique design of the Indal ASIST RSD makes it possible for the single operator to rotate a 30,000 pound helicopter through 360 degrees within the confines of the flight deck, while maintaining complete security in extreme sea states.
